University

I learned to knit the first time as a kid from my grandmother Memere, but I remember everything I made having holes in it LOL

Years later when I went to university in Halifax, I lived in residence with a woman from Ottawa who would knit the most beautiful Fair Isle sweaters.  She helped me remember/relearn how to knit.  I hated studying but if I was knitting a simple pattern while reading my textbooks [no computers for students in the 80s], it didn't feel like studying, so I was hooked! When I went back to school decades later, knitting helped me focus on lectures since keeping my hands busy helped keep my mind from wandering.  Now it's still my favourite meditation-type activity.

I love making sweaters and for years it never occurred to me to make a smaller project.  I didn't make my first hat until 2 years ago - after I'd been knitting for almost 40 yrs LOL

So that's my story 🙂 Thank you, Maryna, for creating this space where we can all learn, create, and socialize with other creative souls!

What a story! Thank you, Lara!

It is amazing how much knitting impacts our lives. It keeps us warm, it keeps us happy, and it keeps us sane.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful story!

My eldest daughter began knitting             .  It looked like a nice way to be creative, pass the time, and end up with something practical.  So I made a sleeveless summer top in a cashew colour and it was filled with twisted stitches which I didn't know how to spot or solve.  Once I knew how nice careful knitting looked, I couldn't wear that top, so I ripped it all out.

Karen, it is wonderful that you and your daughter both knit. It is such a joy to share a hobby with your kid. Some of the most precious memories that I have are those when I was helping my daughter to knit. I am so happy for you, my friend!

One of the best things about knitting is that we can unravel a project and reuse the yarn to make something else. I am sure you will put the yarn you've salvaged to good use 🙂

Have a lovely weekend!
